First day of daycare

My 13 month-old baby started daycare! Which means I now have more freedom to work during the day so I am pumped!  And I'm looking forward to some great gains spiritually, physically, emotionally, relationally, mentally and financially in the coming months.

This season of life is different for me because I've got a lot going for me and a lot to lose. My growing family, our house, my career, good health and youth - these are all very important to me. I want to steward them well, which means I need to protect them and maximize their benefits.

One way to ensure this is by continuing to learn from others on how to be a better husband, father, homeowner, employee etc. And one of the most intentional ways to learn from others is by reading, so this is why I'm revamping my approach when it comes to books.

Historically, I have been very ordered, traditional, comprehensive and meticulous with my notetaking from books. But that approach takes up too much of my most valuable resource: time. So I've got to make a change.

Instead of taking a comprehensive-heavy approach, I will still compile my notes but in a more quick and effective way. The goal for me is simply to:

  1. Synthesize my thoughts so that I can share and reference them
  2. Record specific action items for myself

Reading is an investment and I want a return on that investment so it should show up in how I think and act. Historically my ROI was primarily knowledge-focused but now it's shifting to results-focused. I'm prioritizing my actions in light of my reading and I'm expecting to see some significant gains in my life by the end of the year. It's only about 9 months away - more than enough time right?

I think so. Let's see how this goes.
